Daniels' office silent on reports governor will be next president of Purdue

University trustees set vote on new school president

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ? Purdue University trustees are preparing to select a new president for the school, but university officials and Gov. Mitch Daniels? office are staying silent on reports that the Indiana governor will take over the helm.

WISH-TV and The Indianapolis Star both cited anonymous sources Tuesday in reporting that the trustees would vote to name Daniels to succeed France Cordova when they meet Thursday in West Lafayette. Cordova is stepping down next month after leading the school for five years.

Purdue spokesman Chris Sigurdson declined Tuesday to discuss any possible candidates for the position. Daniels spokeswoman Jane Jankowski also declined comment when contacted by The Associated Press.

The new president will be introduced after the trustees vote.

Purdue has about 75,000 students at its West Lafayette and regional campuses.
